Laser refractive surgery


2014 saw the successful introduction of laser eye surgery, complementing our lens replacement service. Herefordshire patients can now undergo LASEK and PRK treatments without the need to travel farther afield. 



Pentacam anterior segment imaging


New to Nuffield Health Hereford in October 2013 was a state-of-the-art imaging system, known as a Pentacam, offering the gold standard in measurements of the front section of the eye. This system will help to enhance the accuracy of lens replacement and cataract surgery and is becoming a routine part of our clinical assessments for patients undergoing laser eye and lens surgery.



International Clinical Fellowship


From October 2012, Mr Simon Madge started supervising Hereford's first International Clinical Fellow in Ophthalmology & Oculoplastic Surgery at the County Hospital. This will lead to increased capacity in the NHS setting and is a major boost for the the County Hospital's reputation for Quality, Research and Training. New Microscope at Nuffield Health Hereford


New to Nuffield Health Hereford in April 2012 was a £40,000 state-of-the-art Leica surgical microscope, allowing the surgeon an unrivalled view of the eye during cataract surgery. In addition, a video screen allows nurses and surgical assistants a bird's eye view of exactly what the surgeon is seeing during cataract surgery.
